Congressional Republicans demand Cassidy Hutchinson fork over Jan. 6 docs

A GOP panel is demanding former House Jan. 6 Committee star witness Cassidy Hutchinson fork over documents related to her interactions with the since-defunct committee and book deal.

Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), who chairs the House Administration subcommittee on oversight that is investigating the Jan. 6 Committee, claimed that the former panel did not properly archive all of its records, thereby necessitating the request.

“Unfortunately, the Select Committee failed to properly archive their records, including as many as 900 interview summaries or transcripts, over one terabyte of digital data, and over 100 deleted or encrypted documents,” he wrote in a letter to Hutchinson dated Tuesday.

The request of Hutchinson will help the subcommittee “determine what documents were not properly archived” to “accomplish a productive investigation,” Loudermilk said.

He is seeking correspondence Hutchinson had with former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, former White House deputy chief of staff Anthony Ornato, former White House communications director Alyssa Farah Griffin, former White House counsel Pat Cipollone, as well as former White House senior adviser Eric Herschmann.

Another request called for “all communications referencing or referring to potential publishing or book deals or related compensation from June 30, 2021, until today, May 14, 2024.”

That appears to be a reference to her book, “Enough,” which hit bookshelves last September.

Loudermilk made a similar document request of Hutchinson in a Jan. 8 letter but claimed she did not produce all the material he needed.

Hutchinson, who served as an aide to Meadows during former President Donald Trump’s waning White House days, emerged as a star witness before the House Select Jan. 6 Committee.

She testified that Trump lurched for the wheel of the Beast, the presidential car, after being told he couldn’t visit the Capitol following his remarks at the White House Ellipse on Jan. 6, 2021, just before the riot.

Hutchinson also testified about other behind-the-scenes happenings in the run-up to and during the Capitol riot.

She has become a fierce critic of Trump, 77, and urged Republicans against backing him for a second term.

Loudermilk was previously scrutinized by the Jan. 6 panel over a tour he gave to about 15 people on the eve of the Capitol riot. Some of those individuals snapped photos of the Capitol complex.

The Georgia lawmaker has underscored that none of those people entered the Capitol after the ransacking, despite at least one of those guests appearing near the complex on the day of the riot.

In March, Loudermilk’s team dropped an 81-page report accusing the since-defunct Jan. 6 Committee of concocting a “political narrative using cherry-picked information that supports its overall narrative.”

That report also cited at least four other White House officials who disputed some of Hutchinson’s characterizations regarding Trump’s conduct during the riot.

The Post reached out to a Hutchinson lawyer for comment.
