Residents are surprised with a global destination each month and immerse themselves in the food, history, music, and celebrations of the chosen country.
For their “trip” to Mexico, staff and residents tried on Mexican costumes and danced to Mexican music, all the while enjoying nachos and other Mexican treats.
Huge fun was had by all as people posed for photos in sombreros, with maracas and traditional Zapata-style moustaches.
As well as sampling different cuisines, Bon Voyage Club members enjoy the challenge of cooking different national dishes.
Churro cake, a light cake with a sugar and cinnamon crust, was a great hit.
Another day saw “Taco Thursday”, with soft tacos assembled in the garden, making the most of the recent good weather.
“Bon Voyage club is such a great way to keep learning,” says Somerleigh Court manager, Mark Grundonner.
“We all end up discovering interesting things about different countries around the world.
“One of the lovely things about the club is that often residents have interesting facts or memories to share.”
The Mexican theme was finished off with an afternoon of Mexican hot chocolate, and a screening of the classic Chevy Chase comedy The Three Amigos.
Other destinations recently visited by the Bon Voyage Club include Ireland and China.
“There’s always something different with Bon Voyage club,” says resident Mary.
“It’s the variety that I enjoy the most.
“I love increasing my general knowledge as well.
“After our month in China, I was able to share some of the facts with my grandchildren when they came to visit.”
