Some Bluey fans appear to be unhappy after Disney dropped a teaser for its movie adaptation of the wildly popular Australian kids’ show.

The 45-second teaser was shown at Disney’s D23 expo over the weekend – revealing the movie will be animated in 3D, as opposed to the TV show’s 2D style.

The teaser shows the titular blue heeler and little sister Bingo playing with a balloon.

It then reveals that the movie will be hitting theatres on August 6, 2027.

However, some fans weren’t too keen on the new animation style.

One comment on Instagram called it “Temu Bluey”.

Another felt the style took away part of the character’s identity.

“The bold outlines, flat colours, little imperfections, simple backgrounds, and the way the characters move make Bluey feel almost like a children’s book brought to life,” they said.

Another suggested that fans band together and “bully the studios into changing the entire animation” – similar to how the design of Sonic was changed for the 2020 movie about the videogame hedgehog.

Others didn’t seem to care as much.

“This is really gonna be mind-blowing! Wack-a-doo,” one person said.

Another wrote: “Why are adults so upset about the animation style of a kids movie, meant for kids?”

The movie will follow Bluey, Bingo, mum Chilli, and dad Bandit on another adventure.

Producers said the film “takes place on an action-packed day when a big surprise changes everything for Bluey and her family”.

It will be directed by creator of Bluey, Joe Brumm, and produced by Ludo Studio.

Melanie Zanetti and Dave McCormack will once again voice the relatable parents for the movie.

The show has been one of Australia’s most successful exports, airing around the world and in multiple languages, turning the six-year-old dog into an international brand.

It has been adapted as a stage show, has a video game, and will now be a movie.

Bluey was the third-most-streamed show on TVNZ+ in 2025, pulling in more than 41 million streams over the year.
