The Greens can make a ‘big showing’ in the three federal by-elections on August 31.
That’s according to the Green Party in an email to members today.
Even one Green win on August 31 would double the number of Green MPs in the House of Commons. Currently Green Party Leader Elizabeth May is the only elected Green MP in Canada.
May herself won her first set in a by-election. “It can happen again,” her team says today.
The Green candidates in the August 31 by-election races are Bruce Livesey (Beaches-East York); Nathe Perrone (Chicoutimi-LeFjord), and Shelley Luce (North Vancouver-Capilano).
Elizabeth May believes that when people believe the Greens can win, that they do — by feeling empowered instead of resigned.
The Greens feel that, in part, the by-election timing at the end of summer (when people are often away and/or focussed on a return to school) is to intentionally see a low voter turnout.
